Wildfire Update

We came home from church on Sunday and a few moments after opening all the windows to take advantage of the Santa Ana winds to air the house out, the smell of smoke was unmistakable.
We looked online and discovered that the whole town of Ramona was being evacuated.
Later that night we dropped off sleeping bags at the church and were preparing to host a family at home when we got a call from my Mom that they were going to evacuate. They had been ready to house 4 families but instead were gathering up pictures and getting ready to leave. We got a few hours of sleep, being woken up intermittently by the wind, and my Mom and brother got to our house around 4:30a.m. after getting a reverse 911 phone call. We stayed up watching the crazy progress of the fire on TV. We could see a line of fire in the hills from our backyard. By 6:30 we were thinking that we should gather some items and after packing up pictures, some clothes and toys for the kids we hit the road. Everything was in gridlock. The gas station nearby was out of gas. We cut north and drove along a road lined with fire. We hit the freeway and headed to the coast. Spencer's sisters and brother-in-law had evacuated from San Elijo to his grandmother's in La Costa but they were then evacuated. His grandma went to a friend's and the rest of his family went to stay with Jen. His aunt & uncle were evacuated from Fairbanks Ranch. My cousins left RB and my aunt & uncle left Escondido. They had called my parents, concerned about them, but when we heard the fire jumped the 15 at their exit, we called them!
Miraculously all of our homes are OK. The fire didn't cross Rancho Bernardo Road so our neighborhood wasn't touched except wind damage and ash. My parents still don't have water or electricity. Their landscaping was all burned and a drainpipe melted. Their neighbors who share the driveway lost their home as did the family across the street and another on the end of the culdesac. Their are 18 confirmed home losses in the stake. The school district called and said that school will restart Monday and that 20 staff members and 340 students lost their homes. My cousin Steve snuck past road blockades on foot and saved his parents home (calling his brothers for reinforcements) while unfortunately most of their street was destroyed. Eric Ottesen saved his home as well with the help of a friend who had a pool pump.
We came home Wednesday night and are still keeping the kids inside because of the air quality. They are going a bit stircrazy. Tomorrow will make it a full week inside.
But we are safe and grateful!
I will add pictures later.
