Spencer & I had one of the best weeks of our lives when we went to Hawaii ALONE for eight whole days & seven whole nights, the longest we have been alone together in our almost ten years of marriage. It was heaven.

Thanks to Mom :) for watching the kidlets and the the CFFoundation where we got our trip!
We stayed in a donated condo in Kahana on Maui. Everything was so relaxed and wonderful.
The first day we stocked up at Costco and toured the area we would be staying in our wheels for the week, a fun red Mustang convertible.
The next morning we headed to Paia where we were outfitted with bikes, helmets, backpack &
bike lock and shuttled up the volcano: Halakalea, the greatest elevation gain in the smallest distance in the world. We toured the crater and saw cool giant flowers called silver swords. It was so windy! The view was incredible. Then we headed on down for a 30+ mile bike ride, pretty much all downhill. We were on our own so we could stop and lock up our bikes to check out the little towns we saw along the way. It was so fun. I love bike riding, and we don't do it enough. We want to take our bikes out more for date night!

Saturday we went snorkeling and boogie boarding. Spencer got a local's fishing line in his split fins and hurried and freed himself before they reeled in a big one!
Sunday we started with church in Lahaina and then took the road to Hana. It was beautiful! The road was narrow and windy and cut right through the rainforest. We saw lots of waterfalls and amazing plants. Spencer's favorite was the Rainbow Eucalyptus trees. The lava rocks and black sand beaches were cool. We had a great day.
Monday started early! Spencer woke me at 4:45a.m. and my first words as a 30 year old were, "Happy Birthday to You!" I am not a morning person! Spencer had arranged for us to go scuba diving. It was great. We saw white tipped reef sharks, sea turtles, nudibranches, eels and lots of fish! We went to Molokini and Turtle Town/ Five Graves. After finishing up we went to a great inexpensive delicious lunch at Aloha Mixed Plate right on the ocean and went back to nap! We hit the beach and then had one of the best dinners we've ever eaten in an amazing setting at The Plantation House. It was a wonderful birthday!!!
Tuesday was another day of scuba diving and snorkeling/beach lounging. We saw sea turtles again and 4 sharks. The dive began with Spencer and I being attacked by a little mad fish. We must have gotten too close to its eggs and it went ballastic. It was so fast I hardly knew what happened, but when our dive ended we were both bleeding on our hands and had little circular cuts. The dive guides couldn't believe it, that had never happened before! We were very careful on our second dive to keep our hands close to our bodies!
